Summer's Bio

Maybe I should start with trying to explain what Summer is rather than who she is. I got the idea for a character like this when I saw two heart balloons at an event tied together by the neck and thought they resembled a pair of wings.

Summer is a balloonie creature (see: en.wikifur.com/wiki/Balloonie). For those of you who don't know what that is, she is basically, a living creature that is a balloon or rather in her case, a cluster of balloons. She has two 12" jewel pink hearts as her upper wings and two 6" balloons of the same colour as her lower wings. Her body, limbs and head is a single, striped balloon that is much more resilient and tougher than her wings.

Since she is a balloonie creature, it's worth mentioning that she is very vulnerable to sharp objects. Her wings can burst if subject to abrasive surfaces or pointy things. Meanwhile, her body is much stronger and can take some degree of abuse but it can still eventually pop.

Summer can regenerate her wings easily within a day or so if they burst. The more parts of her wings remain intact, the faster the regeneration will be. If her body is popped, however, regeneration will take much longer and cannot be predicted - it could be anywhere from a week to a few months.

Because Summer is mostly air, she is extremely lightweight and if she lands on you, you'll feel as if a balloon just landed on you rather than a creature her size. To have an idea of how big she is, her wings are a pair of 12" balloons (see above). She can fly easily on her own but has difficulty staying afloat if one of her wings are damaged or popped. To make up for this she can also walk and climb structures to get to where she needs to be.

Now onto who she is.

Summer doesn't know her real birthday. She only knows the date when she burst out of her balloon chrysalis, so that's her birthday as far as she's concerned. Her new life started with a bang for her - literally, and she's willing to make the best of it. Since butterflies emerge from their metamorphosis at their adult stage, her childhood story as a caterpillar is something of the past that she doesn't remember very well.

Summer slept on trees at night which proved to be a problem because strong winds would throw her lightweight body all over the place, especially in bad weather. By a stroke of luck a few weeks later she met a pony who became her friend and offered her a crawl space in his home to stay. Since Summer is quite small, that was more than enough space for her and a safe space to call home.

Summer is unemployed for now as she settles into her new home, but she is looking for a place to put her talent to use. She loves colours and has an eye for detail not because she wants to but because of her small size she can handle much more intricate and precise detail.

Her diet consists mostly of small fruits and berries, such as grapes and strawberries. She also likes indulging in sugary treats like cotton candy and ice cream. She is a little partial to strawberries but she will most likely eat anything that's sweet and juicy.

As for how she feels towards the inanimate balloons we see at parties, she likes to take a nap on them. Her love for candy makes her hyperactive and makes her take naps often. Because she can't find any of her other family members (which I am going to post about sometime in the future), she often hugs balloons to feel what it would be like to hug herself. She is, in some way, a looner.

What Summer likes:

1. Hugs! Nice, gentle hugs make her feel welcome but she will only take kindly to it if she is friends with you.
2. Candy
3. Balloons. Comfy ones to sleep on.
4. Splashing around. Summer likes relaxing in the pool and having a splash. She also feels safe because she technically can't drown.
5. Taking pictures. Summer likes to take photos with her little camera. Her camera roll is full of selfies and pictures of flowers.
   

What Summer doesn't like:

1. Sharp pointy objects (for obvious reasons)
2. Bad weather, unless she is safe indoors.
3. Others playing with her wings. She will only let you play with them if she trusts you.
4. Loud bass music. It shakes her up and disorients her (try holding a balloon in front of a loudspeaker and you will see what I mean)
5. Sudden loud noises, including balloons popping. She gets startled easily so fireworks and balloon popping with her are a no-no.

And to wrap up this little bio, here are some of her hobbies:

1. Yoga. She's tiny but she likes to stretch out to remain in shape. Pun intended.
2. Photography. She is terrible with a camera but she still likes taking pictures of things that tickle her fancy.
3. Doodling. It takes a bit of effort for her to lift a Sharpie marker that's about 2/3 her height but she likes to doodle on balloons and other things with them.
